Cabinet Refinishing
DREAMING OF NEW CABINETS BUT DON’T WANT TO SPEND $20,000-40,000 ON THEM?
Did you know you can simply refinish your cabinets, instead of purchasing new, often saving up to 60% off replacement, or remodal?
And did you know you can completely transform your kitchen in just 2 weeks?
Yep….that’s exactly what we do here at Lewis Cabinet Co!
Here's a recently finished kitchen; Perimeter in "White Dove" and the island color in "Soot"

As you can see we not only refinished the cabinets, but also replaced the vent hood with a custom wood one. You'll notice it makes the kitchen feel much larger and more open!
Why should you consider Refinishing your cabinets?
So many reasons!
- Save thousands on your re-model, while increasing your home's value.
- Save time & hassle. There's no plumbing work needed, no living in a work zone for weeks or months on end......we can do it in days, skipping all the effort and mess needed for buying new cabinetry.
- Modernize: New homes come with painted cabinets. Kitchen remodels almost always include painted cabinets. Your neighbors have probably switched over to painted cabinets. Turn on HGTV, need I say more?
"Better than new"
It's true....Refinishing can be better than new!
The vast majority of kitchen cabinets do not need to be replaced.
They just need refinishing, and at Lewis Cabinet Co., we can provide a “factory-like” finish that is often a better solution than replacement.
This is because new cabinets are often not high quality (particle board) and by refinishing quality hardwood cabinetry you’ll get a better quality cabinet than if you were to go out and buy new ones.
Not only that, but you can save cost and time but refinishing instead of replacing. Who doesn’t want that?
Even if you have dated, or worn doors or drawers, don’t lose hope. We can repair, refinish or replace those if needed as well.
If you opt for refacing (new doors & drawer fronts), instead of just painting, you can still save a substantial amount on your kitchen remodel; typically 30-50%.
Whether it’s function or design you need, we’re just a call away and can help you decide on the best option for you.
Need help with color selection?
We have a great selection of designer favorites to choose from. Or we can match a specific color if needed as well.
Updating your current cabinetry
Cabinet Refinishing
We are Cabinet makers, not painters. Here's why that matters:
When looking to redo your cabinets, you will often come across many cabinet painting services; but technically what we do is not “painting”. We are are a wood shop who does wood refinishing, which is very different than painting drywall.
1. We use high performance industrial-grade 1-2K catalyzed products and top-of-the-line industrial enamels for our finishes (not paint).
2. We spray instead of brushing or rolling which provides a quality finish by atomizing our finish- this prevents the textured and striping result as seen in the images below.
3. We do our best to create a factory-like finish by properly washing, sanding, degreasing, sealing off the spray area and ensuring no contaminant encounters the finish.
This is an important distinction, because the KCMA certified finishes and application techniques we use means the difference between a new looking finish,………. and a “DIY” result that shows brush marks, or fades, flakes and chips over time.
Our products are made to withstand cleaning, and aren’t prone to chipping and peeling, unlike regular paint. Most poor results people associate with “painting” is because it’s normal paint; can peel/chip and flake more easier. This can happen sometimes after only a week when not professionally prepped and refinished.
So when we say “Cabinet painting” that really refers to “Cabinet refinishing”, which includes the entire refinishing process, where everything is stripped, sanded, cleaned and filled before new a new finish is applied, just as if you were refinishing a fine piece of furniture.
We make sure everything will last as long as possible, so you don’t have to worry about fading, or wear-and-tear on your newly redone cabinets.
The images below say it best, though!

The Process
- MASKING – We mask everything off in order to prevent over-spray.
- DEGREASING – Grease prevents paint from sticking so we clean everything off.
- SANDING – We sand in order to make sure the paint doesn’t scratch, multiple times
- PRIMING – We apply 1-2 coats of primer to the surface, sand, and caulk the seams.
- PAINTING –We apply our high performance top coat of color to the surface.
- INSTALL – We install or reinstall all of the doors and hardware back onto the cabinets.
- WALK-THROUGH – We walk through the project with you, the homeowner to make sure you’re completely happy with our work.
Before and after our refinishing process

Refinishing your cabinets may be the right option for you, if you’re looking to update the style and to improve house value, in a cost-efficient manner. The potential savings can be up to 40-70% over the cost of replacement.
Our coatings are made to be sprayed on wood, including kitchen cabinets (unlike house paint). Thi limit chipping and peeling because the product is more flexible and has a strong chemical bond. We also prep carefully and thoroughly. Our cabinet painting process is the same as what we use for fine furniture refinishing. Everything must be degreased, cleaned, sanded and filled before new enamel or varnish is applied.
We only use durable time-tested finishes and enamels because our goal is to make sure your finish will last as long as possible, so you don’t have to worry about fading, or peeling.
Most cabinets do not need to be replaced……they simply need a design update; and that’s where refinishing really shines and provides a lot of value.
With our professional process, and durable coatings, people often say their cabinet look better than they did when new once we’re complete!
The "KCMA" standard
If you look at your cabinets, you’re likely to see this KCMA label on the inside of one of the doors.
KCMA stands for Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturing Association.
For more than 45 years, the kitchen and bath industry have turned to KCMA to validate the quality and durability of their cabinets.
Here at Lewis Cabinet Co., we adhere to the same standards by using products that have been rigorously tested to perform at the highest levels of testing.
